SOI DOG FOUNDATION

ADOPTION POLICY

Our Values

Welfare

The welfare of Soi Dogs and Cats is at the heart of our work.  Our goal is to find safe and loving forever homes where our dogs and cats can live out their lives.  We therefore discuss a wide range of lifestyle aspects with potential owners, so that we can match the right animal with the right home and achieve successful outcomes for our animals and owners.

All Soi Dogs and Cats are sterilised, fully vaccinated and microchipped.

Individuality

We recognise that all animals and potential owners are individuals.  We will therefore discuss individual circumstances in detail with potential owners, and provide support and advice to help achieve successful adoptions.

Transparency

We are open and transparent about the health and behaviour of our animals.  We will disclose all known health and behaviour information during the adoption process.

Support for Success

We provide guidance during the adoption process, and support and advice once our dogs and cats reach their new homes, to help achieve successful adoptions.

What To Expect During The Adoption Process

All potential owners take part in a screening process.  This includes an interview and in some cases a home visit.  Additional information may be requested from other sources, such as a landlord or family vet.  Potential owners will be asked to provide photographs of their home, garden and boundary fence.

All potential owners will be asked to disclose as much information as possible about their existing pets.

Potential owners will be allocated with an Adoptions Case Manager, based at the shelter in Phuket, Thailand.

Soi Dog Foundation does not charge an adoptions fee.  We simply ask potential owners to cover the animal’s travel costs (including flight crates and any necessary blood tests).

Where an adoption is approved, the owner will be asked to pay a deposit and sign an Adoptions Agreement to secure the adoption.  Deposits are non-refundable.

The Adoptions Case Manager will be the single point of contact for all aspects of the adoption while the animal is at the shelter, including travel arrangements.

Owners’ Responsibilities Once Their Pet Has Arrived

By signing the Adoptions Agreement, new owners agree to take full responsibility for the care and well-being of their new pet for its lifetime.  Once the Soi Dog or Soi Cat has arrived, owners are responsible for all medical bills and decisions regarding their new pet.

New owners will be required to provide proof of purchase of a GPS tracker that can be fitted to their pet’s collar and should be worn by their pet at all times (except when charging).

With regards to Soi Dogs, new owners agree to use reward-based positive training methods only.

With regards to Soi Dogs, new owners agree to always use a three-point harness when walking their dog for at least three months.  After this time, dogs should not be allowed off leash without some form of off leash/recall training.

With regards to Soi Dogs, new owners agree to engage with Soi Dog Foundation’s approved Behaviourist should the need for behaviour support arise.  New owners agree to engage with and pay for the services of a professional and approved Behaviourist, should this be recommended.

All new owners agree to engage with Soi Dog Foundation’s after care service, for at least three months post adoption.

Points To Note

Potential owners must be aged 18 years or over.

Adoptions will be refused where owners intend to use their new pet to hunt live animals, or where their new pet will live solely outdoors.

Adoptions will be refused where owners intend to use their Soi Dog as a guard dog.

By signing the Adoptions Agreement, owners agree not to crate their new pet.

Overseas adoptions of Soi Dogs to families with children under the age of seven years are not permitted.  Local adoptions of Soi Dogs to families with children under the age of seven years will depend on the family circumstances and require the family and their child(ren) to visit the shelter to meet their potential new pet.

Adoptions applications from homes where there are existing multiple pets will be considered carefully on a case by case basis.

Soi Dog Foundation reserves the right to refuse an adoption.
