The New Jeanne Marchig Cat Hospital

The construction of the Jeanne Marchig cat hospital is well underway. Being built at a cost of over 1 million Thai Bhat plus fitting costs, the hospital will provide much needed facilities for the many cats that come to Soi Dog  for sterilizing and treatment.

The Jeanne Marchig Trust has generously donated $25,000 towards the hospital’s construction.  In addition the wonderful 5th graders of the American School of the Hague in the Netherlands have this year again had a succesful fund raising effort to help towards the fitting out of the hospital which will include large individual fitted cages, operating tables, as well as toys and climbing frames for convalescing cats.

Previously cats have had to be mixed with dogs in the clinic and the cats in long term care had to live in small cages with little or no opportunity for exercise. Very importantly separate suites will provide for separating cats with infectious diseases. Sadly the Feline Aids virus and Feline leukemia are both very common in Phuket.

Subject to the weather the hospital will be completed by the end of June, 2011.

Soi Dog extends many thanks both to the Jeanne Marchig Trust and the 5th graders at the American School of the Hague!
