Shelter Overview

The Soi Dog Foundation center is situated on 4.5 acres (10.5 Thai Rai) of land near the village of Mai Khao, close to the Phuket airport.

The Soi Dog Shelter Comprises: 

• 2 main shelter blocks each having four separate runs. Each run is designed to hold a maximum of 25 dogs, and each run is named after the sponsor who paid for its construction.
• In addition there is a treatment block consisting of 10 runs, each of which can hold 4 dogs.
• A Puppy shelter sponsored by The American School of the Hague which consists of 8 separate runs and a large enclosed play area.
• The Lillian Dinic Animal Hospital which has 2 operating theatres, treatment rooms, and holding areas.
• A 2 storey house which comprises office and classroom downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. Around the house is a fenced area sponsored by Six Senses resorts where dogs can be taken for some one on one attention.
• A further staff accommodation block plus laundry room and food store.

In late 2007, SDF was asked to vacate the Government dog pound and find premises of its own. With the help of local veterinarian and philanthropist Dr. Suchon we were able to move to Mai Khao and build a shelter, clinic, and education center there at a cost of nearly 5 million Thai baht.

 

Land Appeal 1 - Successful! 

Soi Dog extends a huge thank you to all our supporters who have donated to our recent land appeal to aquire the most critical portion of the land on which the shelter is located. Soi Dog extends a special thanks to the Jeanne Marchig trust for their continued support. The purchase of the land is a milestone for Soi Dog as it secures the future for the care of the dogs and cats which Soi Dog helps.

Land Appeal 2 - The Next Step

Soi Dog has negotiated an arrangement whereby the remaining land can be purchased within 2 years at an agreed price of 10 million thai baht ($330,000 USD). This land houses Soi Dog's clinic, the puppy and old and weak dog's run, as well as other facilities. As land prices in Phuket are set to rise the purchase of this land is critical in sustaining the growth of Soi Dog and in continuing our mission in helping the stray and homeless animals of Thailand. We are appealing to new and existing supporters for your help in purchasing the remainder of the land as quickly as possible. This is a critical and immediate initiative for Soi Dog.
