Volunteer Opportunities At Soi Dog FoundationSoi Dog Foundation relies heavily on volunteers both in Thailand and overseas to help fulfill our mission. In addition veterinarians often contact us regarding the donation of medicines and equipment. Details can be found at: Veterinary Supplies Needed. The experience of volunteering for Soi Dog is best described by Dr. Heather Carleton, one of our recent volunteers: “From the moment I arrived at Soi Dog, I was impressed by how hard the staff and volunteers worked to improve the lives of homeless and abandoned animals. The shelter houses over 200 dogs that have been unable to survive on the streets of Phuket on their own. These dogs are kept in immaculately clean runs with plenty of food, water and shelter. They get daily check-ups by the staff veterinarians and are walked and brushed by the volunteers who visit Soi Dog. To be honest, it was the nicest shelter I have ever seen. |

I spent my month there helping the two staff veterinarians with the medical treatments of the stray animals brought in, including spaying and neutering them, as well as attending to the resident dogs. Regardless of age or condition, all the dogs there received excellent care. Blood work and radiographs were performed when needed as well as any surgical procedure that was required. I had never expected to see this level of care that was routinely performed or the incredible effort that was made by the staff and volunteers who often work twelve hour days, six days a week.
I am back in the U.S.now and still miss working at Soi Dog. I have come back, however, with a renewed sense of purpose. I have been inspired by the positive impact that a foundation like Soi Dog can have on the lives of so many animals. Soi Dog has shown me that there is no limit to the difference that one can make."
Dr. Carleton has already returned to Phuket in January 2010 to volunteer at the Soi Dog clinic.
