How to leave a gift to Soi Dog Foundation in your Will:

Most of us do not give much thought to making a Will. After all, we lead busy lives and a Will is surely something to consider in the years ahead.

Beautiful BennyHowever, writing a Will is the only way you can be certain that your assets will be distributed as you wish, benefiting the people and causes dear to you.  For the Soi Dog Foundation, bequests made by our supporters will prove vital for our work and success in the future. If you are considering making a bequest to the Soi Dog Foundation, you should seek advice from your bank or a qualified lawyer, who will ensure that your Will is legally correct and prevent problems for your loved ones.

There are 5 main types of bequests:

Pecuniary – a fixed sum of money.  This may be for any amount (but inflation over the years will reduce its eventual value)

Specific – particular items, such as jewellery, investments or a property

Residuary – a portion of the remaining estate’s value, after all other bequests have been made

Life Interest – the gift may be an asset (e.g. a property), set aside on Trust, from which loved ones benefit during their life-time.  When they die, the gift then passes to the charity

Conditional – the gift is made to a loved one on condition that if they die first or within a certain length of time, it passes instead to the charity

Examples of the usual wording are shown below:

Pecuniary Bequest

“I give, devise and bequeath to the Soi Dog Foundation of Phuket, Thailand, the sum of XXXX for its general charitable purpose and I declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other proper officer shall be a good and sufficient discharge therefore”

Residuary Bequest

“Subject as aforesaid I give, devise and bequeath to Soi Dog Foundation of Phuket, Thailand, the whole /  a _____ share (e.g. 1/4 or 25%)] of my residuary estate for its general charitable purpose and I declare that the receipt of the Secretary or other proper officer shall be a good and sufficient discharge therefore."
