Janis Rosenthal

President of Soi Dog Foundation USA

Janis has been involved in all aspects of animal welfare for over 35 years. From serving on several national boards of directors, to orchestrating fundraising events, to planning and attending protests, she has strived to be a voice for the voiceless. After graduating from the University of Texas, Janis began her career in medical research at Baylor College of Medicine and continued at Duke University. She also had a 20-year career as an Actors' Equity actor/dancer/singer in musical theater, performing throughout the United States.

It was while reading an article about the dog meat trade on CNN.com that Janis was first introduced to Soi Dog Foundation. She sent an email requesting more information, not expecting to hear back. When co-founder John Dalley responded personally and answered every question thoroughly, she knew this was an organisation she could trust and support. In her words, being a part of Soi Dog Foundation is the most rewarding work she has done and she is honoured to represent an organisation with such integrity, transparency, and dedication to ending animal suffering.

Janis lives in southern Oregon with her husband Jeff, who is also a huge Soi Dog supporter. They are the humble servants of Atticus, a stubborn rescue wire-haired dachshund, and Sofia, an opinionated terrier mix who hails from the streets of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
