Thank you so much for your wonderful kindness in wishing to adopt an animal from Soi Dog Foundation. We are very grateful. Adopting from Soi Dog is one of the most effective ways to support our work as it means we can create space to help another animal in need. It’s also very rewarding to give an animal the chance to feel the love and security they so richly deserve.
Please select your country of residence below to find out more about the adoption process and transportation options.
Adopting an animal from Soi Dog is simple, and our experienced adoptions team will guide you through each step of the process. There are a number of stages to this process designed to help you find your perfect match. Please note that this may not be the dog you initially enquire about.
Soi Dog handles everything – we take care of all the paperwork, transportation and medical formalities. All you need to do is collect your new family member when he or she arrives! It’s a very rewarding and heartwarming experience to know that you have changed the world for a homeless animal and provided them with a new life of love and companionship.

Adopting your animal to the USA is a very simple process, and we take care of everything! Our experienced adoptions team will walk you through the easy steps.
The first step is for your animal to have a blood sample taken here in Thailand, which is then sent to an approved lab in Germany for testing to ensure your dog or cat has developed sufficient rabies antibodies. The price of this test is included in the overall travel cost. Assuming your animal passes the rabies titer test (RTT), they can then travel 45 days after the sample was taken, without undergoing quarantine. Soi Dog charges no adoption fee, and all of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters simply need to cover the cost of the travel crate, RTT and flight(s).
There are two great options to get your new family member to the USA:
-
As accompanied baggage with a flight volunteer. Soi Dog works very hard to find flight volunteers willing to bring animals back with them to the USA. We have a very high success rate in doing this to help keep the costs down for the adopter. We are fortunate to have many supporters offering to be flight volunteers.
When flight volunteers are available to bring your dog or cat to the USA, the cost is very reasonable for the distance flown. The final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. Our adoptions team will provide you with a quote as part of the adoption process. In some cases, the wait time to secure a flight volunteer can be a month or two. However, rest assured we’ll do all we can to make this happen as fast as possible. Our goal is for your new dog or cat to start their new life with you as soon as possible. When we receive your enquiry, we will be able to check the current availability of a flight volunteer to your destination.
-
Flying by manifested cargo. If you prefer, we can send your new family member to you as manifested cargo. Travelling as manifested cargo costs more but has the great advantage that your pet can travel to you quickly and fly at your convenience (i.e. a date and airport of your choosing). Your animal will travel in a comfortable travel crate (with access to water) in a climate-controlled part of the cargo hold. As above, the final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. Our adoptions team will provide you with a quote as part of the adoption process.
Regrettably, we are unable to adopt dogs to Canada at this time due to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) measure prohibiting the entry of commercial dogs from countries at high-risk for dog rabies, implemented on September 28, 2022.
This is only applicable to Canada, and adoption enquiries from all other countries remain welcome.
For more information about the ban and how you can help us challenge it, please click here.
The good news is, cats are unaffected! You can continue to register enquiries for cats by emailing adoptions@soidog.org
We would like to reassure existing adopters, and those who are exploring the possibility of adopting a dog from Soi Dog in the future, that all animals in Soi Dog’s care are neutered and given all appropriate vaccinations.
For dogs, they include rabies, distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, heartworm and bordetella. For cats, they include rabies, panleukopenia, herpes virus, calicivirus and leukemia (FeLV).
Dogs and cats made available for adoption, whether to countries abroad or within Thailand, receive a full health check before we promote them. During the time between promotion and completed adoption, they have regular health checks and annual booster vaccinations of the aforementioned, as well as regular broad-spectrum deworming, heartworm prevention and tick & flea prophylaxis.
Adopting your animal to Canada is a very simple process, and we take care of everything! There are no quarantine requirements, which means your animal could potentially travel to you within 3-4 weeks of securing their adoption. Soi Dog charges no adoption fees, and all of our dogs and cats are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. Adopters simply need to cover the cost of the travel crate and flight(s).

Adopting your animal to the UK is a simple process, and we take care of everything! Our experienced adoptions team will walk you through the easy steps.

Flying by manifested cargo. Animals can only enter the UK as manifested cargo if flying direct. This method is expensive, but the advantage is that your dog will arrive sooner and on a date of your choice. Depending on your chosen airline, dogs can land at London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh. If your dog travels as cargo, we will put you in touch with a third-party UK cargo clearance agent, with whom you will need to deal direct. You must pay the clearance agent directly. Some agents, such as James Cargo Services, can arrange to deliver pets to your door for an additional fee.
You will need to collect your dog or cat from the animal reception area of the airport and allow four to five hours after arrival time before collecting from London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Check with your clearance agent for information about other airports. The animal will be classified as a commercial import if the adopter cannot prove they have been in Thailand within a few days of the animal’s arrival and an additional duty will be charged. As above, the final cost will depend on the size of the animal, the airline used and the destination the animal flies to. Our adoptions team will provide you with a quote as part of the adoption process.
Unfortunately, there are no current travel options available for us to fly any animals into Nordic countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Greenland) unless they are accompanied by their owner.
Once flights are available in the future, there is the option to fly to Thailand to collect your pet and travel back with them as accompanied baggage. If this is something that you are interested in learning more about, please email adoptions@soidog.org.
For further information, please see your respective government’s websites relating to current regulations for animal import.
Given that Thailand is NOT an approved export country when it comes to importing animals into Australia and New Zealand, transporting an animal to these countries is unfortunately a very long and expensive process, involving months in a quarantine facility. Since our dogs come from the streets, they have already been through a lot during their lifetime and, therefore, we don't believe it would be fair to put them through this extensive process.
Please know we really appreciate that you have reached out to us and are willing to offer one of our Soi Dogs a home. Even though adoption is not possible to your country, there are still are many other ways that you can help the street dogs of Thailand through supporting Soi Dog Foundation, including donating, volunteering and raising awareness for our cause.

We also recommend you to considering changing the life of a dog or cat closer to home by adopting locally. Adopting a dog or a cat from any rescue or shelter is one of the most effective ways to support their work as each adoption means they can free up space to help another animal in need. It’s also very meaningful to give a dog or cat the chance to feel the love and security they so desperately deserve.
Again, thank you for supporting Soi Dog Foundation. We wish you all the best with finding your new furry family member!
Importing a dog to Singapore is a straightforward process; however, it requires a pre-arrival approval from the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA). It also requires that the dog complete a mandatory 30-day quarantine period once the dog arrives in Singapore.
All of the dog’s health records need to be submitted in advance before the dog arrives in Singapore. If accepted, quarantine space needs to be booked with tentative travel dates. Then a request for dog license followed by an import license needs to be submitted to the AVA.
There are also restrictions on breeds and the maximum number of animals per household depending on the type of building you live in.
Soi Dog Foundation will help you with all steps required from Thailand to bring your dog to Singapore. You will have to request for quarantine space, dog license and import license online via the AVA.
Please see the links below for a guide on how the process works:

Soi Dog Foundation does not charge an adoption fee and will assist you with the process free of charge. Adopters are only required to pay towards the travel costs and any costs incurred in Singapore. There will also be significant costs resulting from the quarantine process and import permits and license. Our adoptions team will provide you with a quote as part of the adoption process.

Thank you so much for your wonderful kindness in wishing to adopt an animal from Soi Dog Foundation. Unfortunately, adopting to all countries in the world is not possible.
The process of exporting a dog or cat into certain countries can be logistically challenging and extremely expensive. In addition, some countries have lengthy quarantine restrictions which can be a stressful process for both the animal and the adopter and, therefore, not in the best interests of the animal's welfare.
If you would like more specific information about adopting an animal to your country and what restrictions may be in place, please email adoptions@soidog.org. Otherwise, please consider adopting a dog or cat from a local rescue. Alternatively, we would welcome you to visit and volunteer at the Soi Dog shelter or you may like to consider donating towards an animal's travel costs, to help them find a loving home in a country where the import regulations are not so strict.
