Joanne and Oscar visited Phuket on their around the world woof tour promoting shelter dogs. Joanne was very impressed overall with the condition of the dogs she saw on the streets compared to other countries she had been to. This is due to the work SDF has carried out over the past 6 years and many tourists never see the sort of cases that come to our shelter. Joanne was visibly shocked at some of the cases she saw at the shelter and told us she had never seen dogs even in the poorest parts of India that had been reduced to such a condition. The dog in the picture is just one example. Found starving to death and covered in open wounds and sores, 2 weeks on most of the wounds are now healed and she can now be touched. Nobody knows what this dog went through and the emotional scars will take a lot more time to heal.
Mum and pups rescued from Nai harn beach where they were under death
sentence. Mr. Nok told "take now or I kill tonight". One of the puppies was
subsequently adopted from Soi Dog - below.

I am well aware that most people who know my wife and I consider us to be totally insane and maybe they have a point! I was in the fortunate position of being able to retire here six years ago at a relatively young age, and felt it would be good to try and put something back into the community that I had adopted as my home. Maybe a day or two a week helping at a local special school was what sprung to mind at the time. The rest of my days would be spent indulging in my passion for diving and taking up golf again.Read more
